2018 Spartan Race Vancouver Sprint

From the Spartan Race website:

5+ km  |  20-23 Obstacles  |  40 minutes Fastest Time

The Sprint may be our shortest distance race, but it’s still a favorite amongst both new and returning racers. It’s the perfect distance for those looking to start their Spartan journey. The Sprint also allows returning racers a manageable distance to see how far they can push themselves. Delivering 20-23 obstacles over 3-5 miles, you’ll never run the same race twice. Once you complete the sprint you are 1/3 on your Spartan TRIFECTA: The ultimate Spartan achievement.

At The BTG, we love Spartan Races!  It's hard to describe, but even though they are physically difficult, they are TONS of fun, and really rewarding when you complete them.

Coach JP will be leading a team of BTG Spartan Team veterans and rookies in the Open class for this fun event.  We'll be sticking together as a team throughout the race, and can help each other with obstacles and burpees, so this is a great intro to Spartan for those of you who are on the fence about trying it out!

2018 Spartan Race Vancouver Super

From the Spartan Race website:

13+ km  |  24-29 Obstacles  |  80 minutes Fastest Time

There’s nothing mediocre about this middle distance race. The Spartan Super offers the ideal blend between distance and speed. Offering racers a true athletic test. If you consider yourself a more seasoned athlete determined to push beyond excuses, you just might have the mettle for a Spartan Super. Serving up 24-29 Spartan Obstacles and 8-10 miles of rugged terrain, the Spartan Super spares no one. Developed as the second race in the Spartan Trifecta, the Super is where you prove to yourself you’ve got everything it takes to face the Beast.

At The BTG, we love Spartan Races!  It's hard to describe, but even though they are physically difficult, they are TONS of fun, and really rewarding when you complete them.

2018 Run For Water Trail 10K Race

A world-class trail race, right in our own backyard on beautiful Sumas Mountain?  Sign us up!

Yes, this is "that race", where Coach JP broke his ankle during the inaugural running in 2016, and grade-2 sprained the same ankle in 2017.  Yes, I'm running it again, and no, I'm not crazy...LOL!

Combine some really challenging terrain with a competitive local field, and you've got the perfect recipe for me making an ass of myself.  This year will be different, however!  With the experience gained over the last two attempts at this event, and my trail running experiences in the 5 Peaks series last year, I'm confident that the third time will be the charm, and I'll finish uninjured in 2018.

The race supports a great cause (water projects in Ethiopia), and 100% of the race's operational costs are covered by sponsors, so 100% of the funds raised by the entrants (you have to fundraise to enter) go directly to the projects.

Register today at www.runforwater.ca/trail, or sponsor my run at this link.

We start and finish in the beautiful Alice Lake Provincial Park, where you can even go for a cool down dip post race, as well as have a BBQ at one of the many picnic tables.

Spartan Race Sun Peaks Beast

  • Sun Peaks Resort Sun Peaks, BC CANADA (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

From the Spartan Race website:

20-23 km  |  30-35 Obstacles  |  3 Hours Fastest Time

The Reebok Spartan Beast: This is our most difficult of the three. The Beast will test not only your endurance, perseverance and grit, but also your mind. The 12-14 Mile Beast packs more than 30 Signature Spartan Obstacles and your final hurdle to Spartan TRIFECTA glory. It won’t be easy but you can’t believe how good the medal feels at the finish line.

At The BTG, we love Spartan Races!  It's hard to describe, but even though they are physically difficult, they are TONS of fun, and really rewarding when you complete them.

Coach JP and the veteran members of the BTG Spartan Race Team will be running a Spartan Trifecta (all three race distances) again in 2017.  At the Vancouver Sprint, Red Deer Super and Sun Peaks Beast, we plan to put the pedal to the metal and finish strong in 2017 instead of "just finishing", which was our goal the last two years.

The Beast is aptly named, as it is a physical challenge like no other.  The general consensus I heard when I attended my first ever Sun Peaks Beast in 2015 was that Sun Peaks was the hardest Spartan Race in North America, if not at least in the top 3 (with Montana and the World Championship course in Lake Tahoe).  2015 nearly broke us, but we came back for more and finished "unbroken" in 2016.  In 2017, we aim to crush it...come and join us for the ride!

The 8-10 Mile Super packs more than 25 Signature Spartan Obstacles through tougher and more rugged terrain. The Super is the test en route to your Spartan TRIFECTA.

At The BTG, we love Spartan Races!  It's hard to describe, but even though they are physically difficult, they are TONS of fun, and really rewarding when you complete them.

Auguston Stairs

Join The BTG crew at the Auguston Stairs!  While I wouldn't exactly call them "fun", it's a free workout and you get to hang out with the crew. :)

If you're thinking of doing one of the more mountainous Spartan Races like Vancouver or Sun Peaks, the leg work from stair training can be a game-changer.  For me, it was the difference between finishing Sun Peaks VERY broken in 2015, to finishing tired but OK in 2016 (despite having only gone back to training for about a month and a half before the race, after I recovered from my broken ankle).

If you're planning to meet up with us, call or text Coach JP at 778.241.3578 the day before.  If there are a LOT of people, we're better to arrive early and park near the entrance to Auguston at the trail head and walk in from there, since parking near the top of the stairs is very limited.  Let's be considerate of the folks who live there!
