I’m a Spartan SGX Level 2 certified coach, with dozens of my own Spartan Race events under my belt since my first race at the Sun Peaks Beast in 2015, and over a decade of experience as a personal trainer, nutrition and mindset coach.   • That’s TOTALLY NORMAL. I hear that all the time.

    Fortunately, when you run in the Open heats, you’re pretty much never alone, and you’ll find that even total strangers will gladly help and encourage you along the way!

    That said, these races are even more fun when you do them with friends, family or join a team. If you can’t talk any of your own crew into running with you, feel free to book a call with me (Coach JP) to see if we have a team running the event you’re interested in - everyone is welcome to join us whenever we run!

    Even if I / we aren’t running in an event near you, I might be able to point you in the direction of folks who are, or groups you can hook up with to find some race buddies. ;)

  • Absolutely! I was a non-runner myself when I took on my first Spartan Race, the 2015 Sun Peaks Beast. I’ve also had LOTS of non-runners participate as part of The BTG Spartan Team in events of all distances.

    While I definitely WOULDN’T suggest jumping straight into a mountainous Beast course (that was a pretty dumb decision in hindsight), Spartan Races offer the 5K-ish Sprint distance that is truly achievable for just about anyone, and you can build from there.

    Here’s another secret - you don’t have to “race” anybody! When you run in the Open heats, it’s more like a rolling social gathering, with friends, family and even total strangers helping each other make it through the course and having a LOT of fun along the way. ;)

  • While being able to do chin-ups can definitely help on these obstacles, you absolutely can succeed at these with proper technique without being able to do a single chin-up / pull-up.

    If you fail an obstacle, there’s always burpees or a penalty loop you can do instead. ;)
